NEW YORK’S PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S HOCKEY LEAGUE (PWHL) TEAM TO PLAY HOME GAMES AT TOTAL MORTGAGE ARENA BEGINNING JANUARY 5
BRIDGEPORT, CT (November 28, 2023) - The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced that its New York franchise will play home games at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut, with the team’s historic home opener scheduled for Friday, January 5, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. ET against Toronto. The league announced home openers for all six of its teams on Tuesday, with the inaugural season scheduled to begin on New Year’s Day in Toronto.

The PWHL officially launched in August with the introduction of six original teams and the foundation to assemble rosters featuring the best women’s hockey players in the world. Among the stars suiting up for New York are Olympians Alex Carpenter, Abby Roque, Micah Zandee-Hart, and the team’s fourth overall draft pick Ella Shelton.

Total Mortgage Arena, located in downtown Bridgeport, is a 10,000-seat sports and entertainment arena that hosts over 130 live events every year including family shows, sporting events, and concerts. It is home to the Bridgeport Islanders, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.
Fans who placed ticket deposits will receive a link for priority access to purchase PWHL season ticket plans beginning Nov. 30. Early access to ticket information will also be sent directly to PWHL e-newsletter subscribers who are registered for updates at this link.
Facilities hosting openers are among the primary venues for PWHL games throughout the regular season. New York will also take part in Toronto’s home opener on Monday, Jan. 1, at 12:30 p.m. ET at Mattamy Athletic Centre. A full season schedule will be announced in the coming days.
